Successfully serving kids in Richmond, Chesterfield and Henrico

We realze that many things hender underprivileged kids from day to day.  As we live out our mission by providing literacy support and grade level reading support, we understand that in order for us to be as effective as possible and to provide the highest level of support in these areas, we have to look at the total picture.

As a result, we deternined that in order for us to fulfill our mission with great success; we have to put our children in the best space possible to experience a successful academic process.

By acheiving this, we have to eradicate and eliminate all the hurdles and obstacles that prohibits underprivileged kids from having a positive learning experience.  We do that by providing the basic needs things that they require like: toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, underwear, socks) and other immenities like clothing, shoes and food.  We understand that if the children are hungry, they won't be abe to function.

If we can provide them with food to ensure that their bellies are not empty; we can make them better prepared for the day's work in the classroom.  They won't have to be distracted and not be able to focus because they now have the nutrition they need for a clear mind.

Likewise, if we can assst and aid them in making sure they have clean clothing, and sufficiient change of clothes during the course of each week, we can protect them from being the target of their peers with teasing and bullying.  Their alertness and our literacy support through mentoring, volunteering and providing books go hand in hand.

This Resource 180 Project takes place in the middle of Fall before the holiday season.  With our basic need support and food support, we also incorporate a gift or two from the wishlist of these deserving children.  This does so much for their moral and it boosts their level of confidence and positive thinking.  It also helps with their social and emotional behaviors.  We are now proud to announce that this program runs 12 months of the year with a second session that starts at the beginnng of the summer break around the second week of June with a new set of children to support.

If we can help to ensure children in title 1 schools in our region are given a equal and fair chance to succeed economically and academically; we will do all we can to provide our contribution.
